Crop Production / Management Services

Aina Koa Pono has teamed up with the Hawai'i Agriculture Research Center (HARC), who will assist in agricultural research and crop management.  HARC possesses over 110 years of experience with biomass species and refining production practices for maximum yields and returns.

Tillage:  Land preparation including clearing, moldboard plow procedures, raised beds, and planting sunhemp for nitrogen fixing, organic matter, and weed suppression.

  Raised Bed

Planting:
Strategies should increase the amount of biomass produced. Configure crops to reduce planting density up to 50% due to raised bed techniques and dedicated traffic zones for each field.

Fertilizer and Chemical Treatments: Use of granular fertilizers and sunhemp to provide significant organic matter and nitrogenous materials as green manure, consequently reducing fertilizer use by up to 30% in plant crops.

Irrigation and Water Use: Using drip irrigation, the most efficient method of water provision to cropping systems in Hawai'i, as well as overhead application of irrigation water should deliver enough water to sustain growth. Each area would be independently assessed to determine which method would be most beneficial.

Crop Cycling: Manage and harvest crops to obtain maximum yield.  Through frequent crop cycling, new production techniques and refining operations will be investigated.
